Okay. Just read over the first post. Came out more negative than intended. Let me briefly start over. This blog is not going to be an indictment of any local business. Anyone doing business locally needs and deserves our support. Too many of these hard working people are doing it right and struggling to make it. Make it a point several times a week to find a new locally owned business and see if they offer a product or service you need. Keep that money in Memphis!
That being said, this not going to be THE BEST of MEMPHIS. More like several places all over town that are really good. And we're going to have a blast doing the research.
Each new post will feature a Memphis song. Here's today's:
The Real Best of Memphis

I have a bone to pick.
O.K. I have a bone to pick. The Flyer's 2014 Best of Memphis list came out last week. Really! These same old retreads? At least Pete and Sam's finally got displaced as best Italian. Have enough of their clientele gracefully moved on to a better place that their grandchildren can stop voting for them? Whatever the case, they still got second! And Huey's! Don't get me started. That ship sailed years ago as far as being the best of anything. Now;they are good. To a point. It's like wearing that old pair of sneakers. Just to many fun memories to not go back every once in a while. But far from the best.
Now, both of these restaurants are locally owned and have been successful for many years. I have tons of respect for them. Hell, Huey's has locations all over! I would take them over any chain, on their worst days, and gladly give them my money. I am simply saying that the real best of Memphis is not being represented. If you were from another city or country; would you want this list to be your itinerary for a 10 day stay? I think not.
So, over the next few weeks I and a select group of experts (restaurant friends of mine and music lovers), are going through the list and giving you the true best of Memphis. Not just restaurants and bars. The entire list. All national chains will be immediately disqualified. Some of the services will be given a pass.
